Denim 101 Goes to School

November 2, 2022

Chemistry, math, arts and crafts, engineering, business — a lot of very basic educational disciplines go into making and selling blue jeans.

White Oak Legacy Foundation (W.O.L.F.) is pleased to work with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction on a curriculum for state high school teachers.

Recently, the Department of Public Instruction added a course called “Apparel and Textile Production” to approved curriculum. The course is now in certain high schools across North Carolina. Students are introduced to design, textiles and apparel engineering.

No apparel item is more basic than blue jeans. And the instruction from W.O.L.F. will take place in Greensboro, North Carolina, in historic mills — Revolution Mill and White Oak Cotton Mill. Products were made at these mills for 100 plus years.

Faculty will be experts in the field. The students will be high school teachers who teach this course in North Carolina.
